SCOTT RICHARD ASBIJRY Sermon topics Southport Baptist The morning sermon title at Southport Baptist Church on Sunday, April 26. is “An Attitude of Gratitude” presented by interim pastor Dr. Marvin L. Gold. Scripture text will be used from Psalms 34:1-10. "Gratitude, thankfulness and appreciation are some of the most important attitudes we can possess." Gold said. “They help us cope with life by drawing our focus to what we have rather than what we lack. Moreover, thankfulness for God’s blessings is the appropriate response to God for all His gifts to us.” Church custodian Tim Greene, who is moving from Southport, will be recognized with a time of appreciation for his seven years service with the church. Sunday school for all age levels begins at 9:45 a m. with morning worship at I f a.m. Sunday evening worship begins at 7 p.m. Trinity United Methodist The Rev. Bill Cottingham, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, invites the congregation" to “come hear of God’s power" as he bring the message titled “Breath Works” on Sunday, April 26. Worship services are held at 8:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday school for all ages begins at 9:45 a.m. Child care is provided. Junior Youth meets at 4 p.m. and Senior Youth at 6 p.m. on Sunday. Jesus cooked them breakfast, then sat down for a heart-to-heart talk with Peter. ‘Do you love me?’ is Jesus.' question to Peter. How would you respond to Jesus' question, ‘Do you love me?’" At the 11 a.m. service new members will be received, and the children will pre sent a puppet show, Southport Presbyterian "Let's face it," the Rev. Jonathan Kelley, pastor of Southport Presbyterian Church, commented. "These Sundays after Easter are a bit of a let-down," He has entitled the Sunday, April 26, sermon "The Post-Easter Doldrums." "As the story in John 21:1-17 makes clear," Kelley continued, "even the disciples felt deflated as the wonder of the first Easter faded. Finally Peter suggested they go fishing again, as they had before they ever met Jesus. But they discovered their lives were not the same. How are we different after Easter?" The worship service begins at 11 a m., and child care is provided during the ser vice. Ocean View Methodist The 8:30 a.m. worship service at Ocean View United Methodist Church on Sunday, April 26, will he delivered by associate pastor the Rev. Lloyd Peiidergraft. Scripture will be used from Micah 6:6-8 for the sermon entitled "Making It Simple.” At the 9:45 a.m. service “Sending Forth for Volunteers-in-Mission to the Nation of Guyana in South America" will be led by Pendergraft. A special chancel drama on "Giving” will be presented by Jack and Deborah Vanderford at both the 9:45 and 1 i a.m. services. Hutchinson officiated the 2 o’clock double-ring ceremony. Music was provided by soloist Diane Hutchinson and pianist Marlene Lively. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lavonne Schroncc of Long Beach. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Asbury. The bride, escorted by her father, was attired in a white satin gown with pearls and sequins covering the bodice, a long white satin train and a fingertip veil of silk illusion. Maid of honor was Laura Asbury of Supply, sister of the groom. She wore a floor-length pink satin gown. Samantha Drew, sister of the bride, and Amanda Asbury. niece of the groom, were flower girls. They wore floor-length pink satin gowns. Dean Asbury, father of the groom, served as best man. Groomsmen were Mark Drew and Timothy Drew of Sunset Harbor, brothers of the bride. Following the ceremony, a recep tion was held at the church’s assem bly building. Assisting in prepara tion and serving were Ray Reid, Gay Vaughn and Jerry Vaughn, all friends of the bride’s parents. A rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom’s parents and was held at First Baptist Church’s assembly uilding on Friday, April 3. Young-Hodges plans Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Lewis Hodges of Long Beach have announced the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter. Amber Leigh, to Larry Neal Young Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Neal Young Sr. of Winnabow. The wedding is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at Town Creek Baptist Church at Leland. Friends and relatives of the couple are invit ed to attend. Holden-Jones plans Mr. and Mrs. Fred Jones Sr. of Southport have announced the engagement and forthcoming mar riage of their daughter, Regina Jones, to Arthur Holden of Leland, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Lee Holden of Winnabow.
